This semester I started using it right away and my students love it. It's a joy to see even the quiet ones rock out.
I love using music and it's not always easy to find good materials.

The "Singing English Irregular Verbs" CD has been a staple resource in my adult ESL class for over two years. It's perfect for my Level 3 students who are at a point where they need to "cement" the irregular past verb forms in their minds. And since the present perfect is introduced during the semester, they need to learn the irregular past participles as well. The music, the melodies, rhythm and grouping of the verbs make learning the irregular verbs so much more fun and enjoyable for the students. In fact, my students are always eager to sing along with the CD.
I recently acquired the companion book of reproducible activities, the "Singing English Irregular Verbs: Teaching Activities" book. The numerous games and activities in the Activity Book are creative, varied and can be adapted to any student group. I never could have come up with all these activities on my own. The reproducibles save me so much time and give the students a great deal of extra practice. My students love manipulating the flash cards by matching them or playing concentration. The interviews and crossword puzzles are especially fun, too. I have experienced significant gains in the post-tests with my students. In addition to learning the irregular verb forms, their use in conversation and writing have also improved considerably.

I use the CD and the accompanying teacher's book with three groups of students: my 4th and 5th grade ELD students, my 4th and 5th grade transition students and my beginning Adult ESL class. I'm not surprised when my elementary students ask me to play the CD, but it did surprise me when, after singing the song twice at the end of a very long night, my adult students asked to sing the song again. In fact, our class time was up (and I was tired!), and they asked for yet another round. I played the instrumental version and told them they would have to do all the singing. It was fun to watch them close their eyes or look up from their song sheets in an effort to remember the forms by themselves.
When I am working with my elementary students and they can't remember a form, I start to hum the song and they remember the form right away. I work with multilevel groups at my school. What's nice about the songs is that I don't have to teach any additional vocabulary in order to accommodate the different levels. The songs provide something for everyone, no matter what level they are. My beginning students can become familiar with the irregular verb forms forms even though they aren't yet ready to use them. When we get to that point, they already know the meanings of the verbs and the forms they need to use. With the adults as well as the elementary students, I have noticed that they are better able to use the verb forms correctly because they have been presented in a fun and easy to understand way. As a result, they are better able to construct correct, complete sentences. I also appreciate the fact that the teacher's book has both oral and written practice activities as well as some games. I love that I don't have to make flash cards, either. The masters are included in the book. Thank you, for making it easier (and fun) to provide my students with meaningful activities.
